What a year 2020 was for everyone. Lots of ups and downs made for a crazy roller coaster of a year, but thankfully (and hopefully) we are putting all of that behind us and looking toward the amazing opportunities that 2021 will bring!
While 2020 saw me achieve my dream of fighting for Invicta FC, it left me wanting more, and unfortunately left a bad taste in my mouth. Don’t get me wrong, the experience was amazing as are Shannon Knapp and her crew! It was my performance I was not happy with. Letting the nerves (that all I’ve ever wanted was right in front of me!) get the upper hand and led to my first defeat in the cage. Those who have had this happen know it is what nightmares for high level athletes are made of. I have no excuses. But I did learn. I realized two things that night in Kansas City. First is, at that level of competition, it means the company one keeps is the best of the best! But I’m there for that reason too! I’m one of them! And you need to let that really sink in. You have to come with 100% of that mentality. Otherwise, you’ll end up licking your wounds on the losing end of fight, and immediately wanting a do-over.
Second thing I realized, was that I hadn’t set my sights and goals higher. I shouldn’t have just been “satisfied” with making it to the “big show.” My goals should have been higher. Not to just making it there, but to be focused and determined to be the BEST Invicta FC featherweight to EVER step foot in the cage. To be an apex predator. To fear nothing, and no one.
With all that said, 2021 is going to be the year that the Phoenix will rise once again. I’m no stranger to adversity, and I have proven my critics wrong at every turn I’ve had to. I’m more resolved now, more than ever to make my mark, make
my presence known, and take my place as one of the elite fighters in the world. Is it a lofty goal? Yes. Will it be easy? No. It will take more work, more determination, more grit, and more sacrifice than ever before. And I’m ready for whatever comes my way. I’m ready to do this.
To all of my fans, much love, and thanks for your continued support, win or learn. To my partners and sponsors, I am forever in your debt. To my husband and family you are my rock. To my head coach Eric Turner and my KMAA fam, UBUNTU. There would be no way I’d be able to do what I do, without your unwavering support and faith in me, my story and my journey.
For now, I’m focused, and I’m ready to take the new year, and make it the year of the Phoenix.
Until lambs become lions.
